Diablo 4’s Season 1, titled “Season of the Malignant,” has been revealed, with new features and content to enhance the gaming experience. The announcement was made during a live stream, where the game’s developers shared insights into the upcoming season, which is set to begin on July 20th.

The new seasonal content, which takes place after the completion of the campaign, introduces a corruption that has spread throughout the world of Sanctuary. Players will interact with a new NPC, Corman, an ex-priest of the Cathedral of Light, who investigates this corruption and seeks the player’s help.

As part of the new season, players will encounter elite and champion monsters that have a chance of spawning as a malignant version. Upon defeating these malignant monsters, they leave behind a heart that can be used to start a ritual. This ritual will respawn the monster as a more powerful version, presenting a challenging fight for the players.

Upon defeating the monster for the second time, players will receive a “caged heart,” an item that can be placed into jewelry sockets. These caged hearts have powers like legendary items and are designed to enable and ease new and powerful builds. A total of 32 new malignant heart powers will be introduced in Season 1.

Also to the new content, Season 1 will introduce new uniques and aspects available in both the seasonal and non-seasonal (Eternal) realms. The game will add six unique items and seven new legendary aspects.

The season journey, exclusive to Season 1, will feature seven chapters of objectives for players to complete. Completing these objectives will unlock item rewards and aspects that can’t be obtained through the Codex of Power. The season journey is free for all players and will reward players with “favor,” which can be used to progress along the battle pass.

The battle pass, free for all players, can be progressed by gaining favor through normal gameplay or completing objectives. The premium battle pass, available for sale, offers cosmetic unlocks. However, it’s important to note that all gameplay advantages, such as XP buffs and longer Elixir duration, can be obtained through the free pass.
